In 2016, the City of Riverside adopted the Climate Action Plan and the Economic Prosperity Action Plan (EPAP) as two interrelated plans for the Riverside Restorative Growth Footprint project.
The City of Riverside is now developing a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) in conjunction with the 2050 General Plan Update. The CAAP will set ambitious, yet achievable emissions reduction targets for our City.
What is a Climate Action & Adaptation Plan?
The Climate Action and Adaptation Plan is a strategic roadmap to guide the City of Riverside in preparing for climate risks and creating meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. It will identify how we will achieve citywide carbon neutrality and outline adaptation strategies to address climate change-induced challenges, such as extreme heat, fewer cold days, prolonged drought, and poorer air quality. This ensures that both mitigation and adaptation efforts are robust and effective in promoting a sustainable future for all.
What will the CAAP DO?
Guide the City through the implementation of measurable actions that reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions to meet or exceed the State’s reduction targets and carbon neutrality goal.
Outline the steps for the City to use energy more efficiently, switch to cleaner energy sources like solar and wind, and adopt eco-friendly practices, ensuring a healthier environment for everyone.
Involve everyone in our city, including local government, businesses, and residents. By working together, we can fight climate change and create a safer, greener place to live.
Help our city get ready for climate changes like extreme weather. It improves our buildings, protects natural areas, and ensures that everyone stays safe and healthy as our climate changes.
